We deliver debt counselling services as part of our debt solutions. For consumer proposals and bankruptcies, two mandatory debt counselling sessions are required by law. These sessions are designed to help you gain a better understanding of how credit works and gives you the tools to effectively deal with debt in the future. The sessions will also include valuable tips on ways to rebuild your credit once your bankruptcy is discharged or during your proposal.

Are the debt counselling sessions the same as credit counselling?

No, our debt counselling sessions are completely different than credit counselling. Our debt counselling sessions are one segment of your overall debt solution plan. They focus on giving you tools and information to help you avoid credit issues in the future.

How long does each session take?
Each session is about 20 - 30 minutes long, depending on questions and information that may be given to you. If you have any questions about the progress of your filing, we will be sure to take the time to answer them during these sessions.

What do I do if I’m not able to make a session?
The sessions can be rescheduled if a conflict arises and you’re not able to make the session. All we need is a phone call 24 hours in advance and we’ll rebook the session. Our number is 1 (844) GTA-DEBT (482-3328), in case you need to reschedule.

Are the sessions mandatory?
Yes. The Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act states that the two sessions are mandatory to receive a discharge from bankruptcy or a certificate of full performance for a consumer proposal.
